3) For Question 2 on the social and cultural contexts of gender representations, identify three potential points in the mark scheme that you didn't include in your answer.

The pack shot in the shape of a lightning bolt also has connotations of power and authority.

 Finally, the costume of the man perhaps reflects David Gauntlet's idea that masculinity is
evolving due to changing representations in the mass media. The lack of a tie and socks is a
more informal, modern interpretation of masculinity compared to traditional
representations and perhaps suggests that Carolina Herrera as a brand is not entirely stuck
in the past.

The image of the woman reinforces both Laura Mulvey’s ‘male gaze’ theory and Lies bet van
Zoonen’s idea that women’s bodies are presented as ‘spectacle’ for the benefit of male
audiences.

I will attempt to add more theorists and their theories in my next assessment as that is what i think i lacked.

Introduction to feminism

  Everyday Sexism 1) Why did Laura Bates start the Everyday Sexism project? During one week Laura was sexually harassed three times. This had triggered questions and feelings,so she asked many women  on whether they had endured the same experiences as her and they had all agreed that this was something 'normal' that had happened on a daily,weekly,monthly basis. 2) How does the Everyday Sexism project link to the concept of post-feminism? Is feminism still required in western societies? Post feminism is for young women who are thought to benefit from the women's movement through expanded access to employment and education and new family arrangements but at the same time do not push for further political change and the everyday sexism project presents to the world the challenges women face everyday. 3) Why was new technology essential to the success of the Everyday Sexism project? Women are able to share stories about the things they have experienced whilst staying anonymous.

Feminist theory: blog tasks

  1) What examples are provided from the two texts of the 'male gaze' (Mulvey)? A post-feminist reading of this might be that since Beyoncé is openly allowing herself to be objectified, indeed encouraging it by looking down the camera playfully and winking at the audience, she is controlling ‘the gaze’ and is thus empowered. 2) Do texts such as these show there is no longer a need for feminism or are they simply sexism in a different form?
